Denola Grey and Antiquities
Denola Grey is very versatile in his endeavors, A model and fashion icon, he has a style and aura that radiates a meek yet intimidating persona. With a character and charisma that is somewhat controversial for being effeminate, Denola Grey has Stylish Qualities untypical of the everyday man. He wins the heart of most people who come in contact with him due to this untypical nature since he combines it with class and a sense of Antiquity.
Denola Grey, being a professional model and Fashion icon in Nigeria, also has a regular 9-5 white collar job which is probably a maneuver or stratagem, to gain a financial advantage till he attains superstar status, which by the way is a feat he seems to be steadily accumulating. Now all that being said, Our point of Interest here at SEGUN ON CARS is to see how Segun Animashaun can merge Denola Grey's somewhat "'antiquated'' sense of Fashion, (which happens to be similar to that of the notable Fashionista Scott Disick), to the car he drives which at the moment is the regular modern day house-to-work automobile. Though not too modest in nature, here are three grey-market antique cars that are modest in price, easily maintainable in Nigeria and suitable for the class, style and charisma of Denola Grey.
The most expensive to obtain of the trio, The Rolls-Royce Corniche (pronounced Corneesh) is a two-door, front-engine, rear wheel drive five-seater produced by Rolls-Royce Motors as a coupe and convertible from 1971 to 1995.
The exterior design was by John Polwhele Blatchley. The model was assembled and finished in London at Mulliner Park Ward. as continuation of the 1965 Silver Shadow coupe and 1966 drop-head. A Bentley version was also sold, becoming known as the Continental in 1984.
The Corniche draws its name from the French and Italian term for a corniche, a coastal road, especially along the face of a cliff, most notably the Grande Corniche along the French Riviera above the principality of Monaco.
The Corniche, available as coupé or convertible, used the standard Rolls-Royce 6.75 L V8 engine.(A Fuel guzzling engine in contrast to both of the Mercedes'. Though a very strong workhorse, this is car hast to be the most pampered of the three due to its spare-parts not readily available in Nigeria, though they can be sourced from The United Kingdom or the United States for a fee.The Corniche can be easily serviced in Nigeria and the engine, electrical components and power-train are not complicated to repair or assemble by Local mechanics and workshops in the instance of a fault.
Below is the link to a nicely used Burgundy colored pristine example for sale. Located in the USA, it's ready to be imported after being procured at a token price of $35,000 (N12,600,000) less import duties, tax and shipping charges.

The second cheapest to obtain of the trio due to its lower vintage which happens to also be the second easiest to maintain considering the availability of its spare-parts here in Nigeria is the Mercedes-Benz R129 SL500. The SL500 is a roadster which was produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1989 through 2002. Designed in 1984, the R129 was based on a shortened floor-pan of the Mercedes-Benz W124 E-class, a.k.a, the V-Boot. This SL was presented at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show
The R129 was a two-door, two-seat roadster with an automatic collapsible textile roof, with a shell-like, color-matched cover. All R129s came standard with an aluminum detachable hardtop that was fitted in place by folding the canvas roof down and manually attaching the hardtop. This meant that the car could either be driven as a hardtop coupe, could be driven as a soft top convertible or it could be driven topless. The number of standard features was high, with electric action for the windows, mirrors, seats and hydraulic convertible top.
The 1990 Mercedes-Benz SL base model was the 228 hp 300 SL(SL320) version but it was the 322 hp 500 SL(SL500) with its powerful yet graceful 5.0-litre V8 engine which made the most headlines.
The R129 SL500 received heightened media attention in Great Britain in 1991 when Diana, Princess of Wales sold her Jaguar XJS to lease a metallic-red 500 SL and became the first member of the royal family to use a foreign car. This was not without controversy as it sparked a media storm as it questioned whether a member of the British royal family should drive a foreign car. Media pressure eventually forced her to return the car to Mercedes-Benz in 1992, with whom it now resides in the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
The SL500 by is by no standards a slow vehicle. The acceleration figures are thus, From 0-100km/h in 5.3seconds, From 0-150km/h in 10seconds, From 0-200km/h in 18seconds and Its top speed was limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Starting in 1993 for the 1994 model year, The SL was re-designated. For example, 500 SL became SL 500.
Below is a modestly priced very clean example. Silver in color, this example goes for $13,970 (N5,000,000) excluding tax, Import duties and shipping charges
Mercedes Benz SL-500
The Mercedes-Benz 300SL, known as the R107 in Mercedes nomenclature, is the cheapest to obtain of the three slightly below its successor the R129 SL500. It's also by far the cheapest to run, maintain and own for its efficiency.
The R107 300SL was a 2-seat car with a detachable roof. They were produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1971 through 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by the automaker, only after the ever popular G-Class (G-wagon) which has been in production from 1979 till date. This SL, was powered by Mercedes Benz's toughest and most efficient engine till date, the 2.8Litre M110 engine. In the automotive world and to many popular automotive journalists such as the controversial critic, Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame, the 300SL engine, drive-train, electrical components and as a matter of fact, the whole car was made at a time when Mercedes Benz incurred financial losses doing research work and producing cars that were assured of reliability, economy and efficiency. This SL model also came in a myriad of engine configurations from the economical 300SL (2.8Litre 6cylinder) to the Powerful and popular flagship 560 SL (5.6Litre V8). There were still many other configurations to choose from in between.
Below is the link to a very nice 1981 example. It came in Terracotta Brown exterior paint with a mustard beige interior. Its the all-rounder of the three and makes a statement as regards Antiquities
